Our little patient...

Look at the fish Daddy!

Little does she know...this would be the best part of our trip!

Help Mommy...what are they doing to me!?

Look at those tired eyes...sweet baby!

Daddy, why are you smiling...I'm not having any fun here!

When do I get to sleep??

We managed to keep Olivia up until 10:00, but then was up again at 4:00 in the morning! She was pretty awake this morning right away and must have assumed it was her normal wake up time. However, it didn't take long and she was ready for her nap...but it was going to be a while. We got her up and gave her a bath first thing this morning, and then headed for the hospital at 6:00. We arrived and only had to wait a short time before heading into the room...and Miss Olivia took advantage of watching the fish in the waiting room. She could have stayed there all day, and little did she know, she would have wanted to after what she was going to be put through! We got into the room and had to answer a few questions from the technician. There were two ladies that were helping us today which was a great deal..we definitely needed them both. The first thing they did was practice (making marks on her head and applying the electrode) on Mommy and Daddy, just to show Olivia that we were going to do it too...and to let Mom and Dad know exactly what she would be feeling. So, that was wonderful..I knew it wasn't going to be painful for her, but it was still painful for Mommy to watch. The next thing they did was wrap her up like a burrito in a sheet in order to keep her arms tied down. That made her mad right off the bat. They layed her on the bed and with Mommy and Daddy by her side, and one of the Technicians holding her head down, the other lady started applying the electrodes. Since she was so little, they had to glue them on. So, it looked like little squares of guaze that they soaked in the glue and applied to the top of each electrode. This is when Mommy started getting tears in her eyes. She was crying pretty hard because she was so tired and couldn't do anything about it. She didn't know what the heck they were doing to her, but she knew she wanted them to stop! And, it seemed to take forever!!!!! There were about 20 or so electrodes total, and it was just hard to not pick her up and hold her and make them stop!! They weren't hurting her, but again it was just horrible to watch her have to go through it. So, once they were all done applying them to her head, she was able to relax a little. She was so ready to sleep, but she had to stay awake for a little longer for them to do a flashing light test? It was like a strobe light above her eyes and she had to keep them open for a few minutes while they flashed it in a series of patterns? Hard to explain, but by this time, it didn't bother her one bit. Then, she was able to sleep. Mommy was also able to lay next to her and comfort her while she slept. They only needed her to sleep for about a half hour, which certainly wasn't long enough for her...or Mommy! Then, as soon as she woke up, it was time to take all the electrodes off...which also made her mad again. They had to apply some solution all over her head which dissolved most of the glue. It was pretty awful and turned into a greasy mess on her head! Finally, they were done and we were able to leave. We won't know the results until next week some time, but we are glad it is over!!! She did extremely well considering what they had to do, and was able to sleep when she needed to sleep which is what Mommy was worried about. I was afraid she wouldn't be able to sleep and we would have to do it all over again, but that wasn't the case! So, more to come next week!!!
