Another scary episode..this time for Kathy!

Kathy called me at work today, and she started the conversation by saying "Olivia's fine (which I absolutely appreciate), but she scared the crap out of me today!" She said she held her breath again...and turned purple in the face, lips and mouth! This time, rather than her being mad or frustrated, she actually fell..just like she does every day..but fell on her toy! So, she was crying because of pain this time and couldn't catch her breath again. Soooooo scary!!!! I was instantly almost in tears again at work, and could tell Kathy was shaken up as well...although she handled it quite a bit better than I did! In other words, she was not hysterical!!! Although, I can actually say I know what she was feeling! She didn't go limp this time, which was good, and it just took a little while for her to catch her breath again. However, the face she makes permanently gets in your head and I saw it all over again as well. I couldn't help but to apologize to Kathy cause I was hoping it was a one time episode that she would never do again...but that wasn't the case. After reading several more articles about "breath holding," it apparently happens to about 5-7% of children (1 in 20 kids)...and I just hope she isn't one of those statistics. Dr. Baety said last time that if it happens again, that I need to call him. So, he wasn't able to get back to me today, so hopefully we'll hear from him again on Monday. I'm not sure what they will tell us...if anything..but hopefully he has some suggestions on what to try if it happens again. And, Mommy (and Kathy) will be signing up for a CPR class very soon!! No fun at all!!!
